Makkala Jagriti, HSR Layout, Bangalore:
Background of the center: It is a care center for economically deprived children. The focus of the organization is on the development of working children, children in slums and especially those who are under-privileged. This organization is also actively engaged with families and communities to create an environment that can change a child's world. Currently there are about 150 children coming to Makkala Jagriti to spend their time.
Our role that is attached to the center: We have been associated to MJ since 4 months, but we feel we have been associated to it since long time as we see the bonding, between the kids and all the volunteers growing faster – just like that of two friends who have met after a long time!! We stay throughout the day on each Saturday and Sunday, in groups of 2-3 volunteers, for 2 hours each and provide classes for dance, yoga, tuitions, crafts, spoken English, computer classes and drawing/painting. These activities have yielded an insight into the immense individual talent the children have in them, baring all the toughest of circumstances. We have also had thoughts on finding people/organizations to sponsor the bright children.
What we intend to do in future for this center: Introduce new courses + fun learning sessions that will help the children to be lateral thinkers.
Asha Nilaya, Koramangala, Bangalore:
Background of the center: It is a center for economically deprived children and orphans. Here, focus is on the all-round growth of children. They are provided with emotional support and an opportunity to grow in different areas of life, so that they can contribute positively to the society. At Asha Nilaya, there are about 30 children, studying in 1st to 8th standard.
Our role that is attached to the center: We have been associated with AN since 5 months Exams of the kids have been approaching and hence we have been taking tuitions on weekends in a 2 hour slot. We also take classes for dance, spoken English and drawing. We also celebrated Republic Day with children and the feedback we got from everyone, including the warden, was excellent. The smile on the children's face was the most precious feedback!
What we intend to do in future for this center: In future, we are planning to start a life-skill program for the kids of Asha Nilaya. Introduce new courses + fun learning sessions that will help the children to be lateral thinkers.
Future Activities:
Ananya :
Ananya was started in March 1998, by a group of individuals concerned about the dearth of schools that provide relevant and meaningful education for the underprivileged children in and around Bangalore city. We visited Ananya on the occasion of their 10th anniversary celebration. We plan to associate with them in the future and facilitate technical seminars, knowledge sharing sessions etc.
Mithra Jyothi:
It is an NGO providing various kinds of support to visually challenged people.
Karunashraya:
It is a cancer hospice that provides in-patient care.
